Art

I used to draw and paint a lot. Then I went to graduate school, married with children, and soon found that I barely had time for things like eating and sleeping. So the drawing and painting had to stop. But lately, I've been picking it back up.

Here's some stuff I've done recently. Click on any image to open up a slideshow that you can navigate with the left and right arrow buttons.

Plant Minds illustrations

One of my colleagues (Chauncey Maher) wrote a book about whether plants have minds, and asked me to do some illustrations. There were 40 total. Here are a few of them.

Interesting people

1+2: Kurt Vonnegut
3+4: George Washington Carver

Batman, etc.

There was a time in my life when I wanted to be a professional comic book artist. But then I learned how incredibly difficult it is to make a decent living drawing superheroes (so I became a professional philosopher instead ...). Anyway, these days, I relive those old daydreams by copying some of my favorite artists in the industry. This gallery will just be a growing dump of drawings, mostly of a certain Gothamite.
1+2: Cover of Batman #251 (Neal Adams)
3+4: Cover of The Dark Knight Returns #2 (Frank Miller)
5+6: Cover of Crisis on Infinite Earths #1 (George Perez)
